Life, Rewritten: Unexpected Losses

Tending to Loss, Love, and the Life That Unfolds in Between with Trina Welpott

“Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?” ~ Mary Oliver

In this follow-up conversation, Trina Welpott, LCSW, shares about a chapter of her life shaped by profound responsibility, loss, and an ongoing process of personal reinvention. At 24, she lost her father suddenly — a moment that changed everything. Not long after, her mother suffered a brain aneurysm, and Trina stepped into the role of primary caregiver for both her mother and her older sister with disabilities. For 18 years, she navigated the complexities of caretaking, grief, and love, while also building a family and forging a deeply intentional career.

What moved me most was the quiet strength in how Trina tells her story, and her reflection that, even in the hardest moments, she somehow had what she needed. There’s deep wisdom in how she holds both the weight of loss and the grace of connection, and in the way she continually chose to lean into gratitude and growth.

Through it all, Trina turned to practices like meditation, yoga, running, and time in nature, not just to survive, but to stay present, to heal, and to reimagine what was possible. Her story is a powerful reminder that reinvention often begins quietly, in the daily choice to keep showing up with love, presence, and hope.
